Pittsburgh – Jan. 21, 2015 — The Allegheny County Medical Society (ACMS) Foundation recently awarded a grant of $5,000 to the Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank to be used for accounting/computer infrastructure.
The Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank provides children of low-income families with a basic health and hygiene essential – a supply of diapers. Diapers cannot be bought with food stamps and are not available through other government programs.
As a result of this grant funding, the Diaper Bank will be able to track and allocate diapers more efficiently to provide diapers to its partner agencies and additional agencies who call daily for diapers. It also will support an accounting system; manage grant and cash donations; produce an operational budget, board and other required reports; and create and manage a donor/client database.
“The Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank has grown beyond its capacity in just two years. We are grateful for the ACMS Foundation grant to put in place a means to track operations more efficiently. As all volunteers, this frees time to dedicate to our primary goal – to expand to provide diapers to hundreds of children in need, estimated at 77,000 diapers a day in Allegheny County alone,” said Cathy Battle, executive director.
The ACMS Foundation mission statement is “ACMS Foundation grants will support home and community environments that nurture and develop healthy children and families for a healthy Allegheny County.”
The ACMS Foundation has given more than $2.6 million to various community programs since 1960.
