Development Director - Full-time

Job Description:

Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank is giving hope to families by addressing basic needs. As the region’s only basic needs bank, it combats diaper need, period poverty, and incontinence for families in crisis through its advocacy and distribution programs. The Diaper Bank partners with over 60 social service agencies and community partners in Allegheny, Fayette, and Westmoreland counties to hand out 3 million diapers, period products, and incontinence supplies to over 13,000 families annually.

 

Title: Development Director

Time Commitment: Full-time, 35 hours/week including some evenings and weekends.

Reports to: Executive Director

Salary: $50,000 - $60,000 year

 

Summary:

The Development Director is responsible for working with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan that includes major gifts, corporate and foundation funding, events, faith-based and individual giving, and government grants. The Development Director will provide strategy and leadership on all fundraising initiatives and activities including oversight of communications planning with support from the Digital Marketing specialist and Marketing and Development Associate to ensure key messaging and impact is demonstrated to stakeholders. A main objective for the Development Director will be diversifying and increasing support from corporate and foundation funders and building a major and planned giving program.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop and Implement a Comprehensive Fundraising Plan: This involves cultivating major gift prospects, as well as corporate and foundation donors planning and executing special event that engage donors and raise funds for the organization.

    • Lead grant management activities including researching and writing LOIs, proposals, grant budgets, reporting, and ensure compliance as required by grant award documentation.

    • Establish goals and provide monthly reports to the ED and the board which measure progress towards achieving the plan.

  • Gifts Cultivation: Create and implement strategies for donor development which will provide a diverse and sustainable funding for WPA Diaper Bank.

    • Keep up to date on current fundraising programs, practices, and procedures in the non-profit sector.

    • Create and implement strategies for donor development and cultivation which will provide a diverse and sustainable funding base.

    • Create and implement major gifts, planned giving, and volunteer giving programs

    • Identify and pursue new sources of corporate and foundation funding for events and programs.

    • Build and maintain relationships with major donors of all types, develop strategies for solicitation, and solicit or coordinate the solicitation by other staff, board or volunteers, as appropriate.

    • Create and update collateral materials including proposals and presentations to support gift cultivation.

  • Public Relations and Marketing: Provide oversight to communications planning to support impact and messaging for stakeholders.

    • Build and sustain working relationships and communication with community associations, business leaders, grant funders, universities, faith-based organizations.

    • Oversee and direct media relations, social media communications, and ensure brand guidelines for WPA Diaper Bank

 

Qualifications:

 

  • B.A./B.S. preferred with an emphasis or concentration in Business Administration or Nonprofit Management.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Nonprofit Fundraising, with a minimum of 2 years in grant writing

  • Excellent Written and Verbal Communication Skills

  • Strong Leadership and Management Skills

  • Demonstrated Ability to work collaboratively.

  • Experience with Salesforce a donor database software system

  • Deep Commitment to the Organization’s Mission and Values.

  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Flexibility and Adaptability.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Confident public speaking and able to express ideas verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to work well with people from all backgrounds with varying degrees of experience.
